New Max's?

Has anyone made up their mind about getting the rerelease of Live at Max's tomorrow? I'm debating, because I want to see the new linear notes but I don't love the album (because of the cheesedick drumming - Mo Tucker forever!) Anyone else?

There was never any deliberation for me, I'm picking it up for sure. Of course it isn't as good as another volume in the botleg series would be...

I just picked up a "promo" copy w/ the rehearsals that will remain unreleased! And for only $10 more than the regular issue! Woo hoo!

Is there any reason to keep my original cd copy now?

Yeah, apparently Sweet Jane was stitched together from the intro of set 1 and the song from set 2 (or v.v.), so that mix now is unique to the original issue.

Actually, I like Billy's energetic drumming on the fast songs (less so on the slow ones, though!). I'm Waiting for the Man rules in this setting, no small thanks to Sterling's solo. I went out today (Aug 3rd) to see if it's available over here in the Netherlands - sadly, no. Shop assistants in two music stores told me that it's going to be released on August 27th. Would've loved it if it were released on August 23rd! :D
I'm very curious about what Maureen may have to say on the album. Maybe she sheds a little light on the circumstances of Lou's departure...

My new copy is on the way, so in the meantime I gave the old one a listen (for the first time in at least a year). It definitely sounds like the tape-speed fluctuated quite a bit throughout the album. I am curious to see if it was corrected for the Deluxe Edition.

Rhino's website
has nothing to say on the sound quality (nothing much at all, really); Billboard says: "Although the source tape is an audience recording made by a friend of the band, the new edition is said to feature much better audio fidelity than the 1972 edition."

 Of course you're right in a way, I mean Mo Tucker forever, sure! I remember way back when I first heard Max's the "cheesedick" rawk drumming really bummed me out too but I got used to it because everything else about the album is way beyond fantastic; the overall mood, the intimacy, Lou's stage raps, Sterl's solos, the setlist, everything... Gotta love it!

I haven't picked up the new version yet but I'm sure I will.

I buckled and bought revised Max's, but I'm glad I did, despite ole cowbells banging away every two seconds. It's a really nice recording, and you're totally right about everything else on it being really great, homme. The linear notes are pretty much the same old story, but with a little more emphasis on the recording itself which was interesting. Great pictures of Lou performing, looking very esctatic, and a print of Sterling's bartab, which hilariously enough is still being credited to Andy Warhol.
