Issue date of Banana album

Post by markfunnell »

Wikipedia reports the release date of the first album as 12th March 1967, but that was a Sunday.

Does anyone know?

Conflict of interest declaration- I was born on the 9th March 1967. On that day Strawberry Fields Forever was kept off number 1 (here in the UK) by Englebert Humperdinck, the only Beatles single not to make number 1 between 1963 and 1969. I could do with something good having happened on the day I was born. Sharing Cale's birthday is good, but having the Banana album released the same day would be awesome.

Hi

The earliest Ad I have seen for the VU & Nico comes in the January 28, 1967 issue of Cash Box magazine. It is a Full Color 8 page MGM records ad which first page reads: "20 Years as the First Family of Recorded Music. And Now, Our Inaugural Album Release for 1967..."

The VU & Nico back cover with Emerson (Stereo) is on the Verve Section "Verve For Victory".

I would say then that the album could it be available latest in Feb 67 (if not even in Jan).

Edit: forgot to say that last section of the Ad is for 8-Track Cartridge and the VU&Nico is not listed
