Another theory is that the song is not from from the Gymnasium at all, and could be Tony Conrad's off-air recording of the Upbeat tv show.
Thanks Alfredo. If all that is true, then that author was one of maybe 100 people (I joke) who actually listened to VU carefully in concert during their lifetime.
If he followed them tht closely, it is odd that he didn't mention their 3 or 4 other appearances at BTP in between sept 68 and march 69

Interesting ...
I have tracked this person down to a flickr account under the same name - they are not old enough to have remembered /seen at tv show in '68, but I might message them and ask where they heard this suggestion. It's a bit random and stalker-y but worth a try...
Simon's suggestion that this version of Fever might be from the TV show, sounds quite plausible.
However, I'm unclear on the Upbeat TV performances. Were there were two, three for four Upbeat shows (inc the Oct 4th appearance with Yule)? And what did they play?
Olivier's site quotes Jamie Klimek:
'In early '67 they did Guess I'm Falling in Love (not on LP) on Upbeat! with Cale'. [the July 1967 appearance ? - or January? (see below)]
Yet, Conrad taped the Upbeat show on May 11th 1968.
Unterberger has critic Ben Edmonds saying it was White Light/WHite Heat during the May 11th show, but he was tripping, 'so who knows what I saw'.
And also the Cale site also states that the Cleveland TV Guide lists them as being on the show in January 8th 1967 (appearing alongside Marvin Gaye). Was this the 'early '67' show that Klimek mentions.
Who is the Tom Cramer quoted on Olivier and Cale site, with regards to their performance of Run Run Run on Upbeat - which he says was in June '68? Did they do Run Run Run with Cale or with Yule ? later in Oct?
Which is the show that Conrad taped over the telephone?
What was Sterling Morrison's recollection of what they played on Upbeat? I can find no direct quote of that, just a reference to it.
