the velvet underground - prague, june 13th 1993

unknown lineage
got this in a trade years ago
agfa cro2 cassette (generation unknown) > pc > magix cleaning lab > wav > flac frontend 8

cd1:

1 we re gonna have a real good time together
2 venus in furs
3 guess i m falling in love
4 afterhours
5 all tomorrow s parties
6 some kinda love
7 i ll be your mirror
8 beginning to see the light
9 the gift (cut at beginning)
10 i heard her call my name
11 femme fatale

cd2:

1 hey mr rain
2 sweet jane
3 velvet nursery rhyme
4 white light white heat
5 i m sticking with you
6 black angel s death song
7 rock n roll
8 i m waiting for the man
9 heroin

unfortunately the last two encores are missing on this recording. after heroin you can hear the taper
say: "i glaub jetzt foahn ma daun do" (clearly austrian dialect) which means in free
translation: "ok, let s go home" and after that the sound get s muffled as if the microphone was put
under a jacket or into a bag.
you have to know, that the concert took place on a sunday. and it seems that the taper(s) had to
go back to austria that same night to go to work on monday. at that time, short after the
fall of the iron curtain, the streets weren t the best between prague and austria. no motorway.
i remember driving home from a page/plant concert at prague a few years later and it took me
nearly six hours. so i m pretty shure, that this source never contained the last 2 songs (btw: pale blue eyes & coyote)
i also think, that this source is in very limited circulation.

Thanks for the info on this. I've never seen it shared before. I'm anxious to hear it. It's always nice to have some "new meat" to sink our teeth into even if the quality isn't always top notch (and it doesn't sound as if this will be very good from the way it's described). Oh, well...

Did some research and found some additional info:

I think the Prague show is from Afterhours Tape #56:

VU: LIVE IN PRAGUE 13 JUNE 1993
The show of shows from 1993. No place ever embraced the Velvets as has Prague, and this show, with President Vaclav Havel in attendance, was the emotional peak of the tour.

I can't wait for it to finish downloading!

I was at this concert myself, and from what I remember, Lou said hello to Havel and made some comments about the 'Palác Kultury' (where the concert was held). Palác Kultury was build when USSR was an 'occupying'
force in Tcheckoslovakia.
