Actually, there are 3 tracks not on the official release.

Disc 1: 9 (Cool It Down reh.), 10 (Who Loves The Sun reh.), 11 (Conversation - unlisted)

That is 8:18 of additional music and the Conversation is 2:01. That is nearly 10.5 minutes longer than the commercial release!

Additionally, the "intro" was separated from "I'm Waiting For the Man."

There were two Promo editions issued. This one was issued in March. The second one, issued in June, had two rehearsal tracks removed, merged the "intro" w/ IWFTM, and had the "Conversation" (Patti Smith and someone else) removed.

The quality may be better on the final release as I remember seeing something on the advance copies saying they weren't from the master tapes.

"It was recorded from available disc sources and may not include all the material; the quality does not in any way reflect that of the final released product."

That is what is written on the back. I have played both through my system, which is as follows:

Pioneer DV-414 (DVD/CDP)>Kenwood KA-900 amplifier (w/ tone controls bypassed)>KLH Model Five speakers

I could not tell the difference between the Promo and final release. There IS a difference between these and the OLD single-disc Max's.

I was surprised at how much better the late show songs sound on the new set. Much better quality and at the correct speed. The early show songs were an upgrade, but not as big. Sounded like NR was used on the original, which dulled the highs some.

Perhaps the tapes from the original release were transfered using older, inferior technology and the late show had been only recently transfered digitally? I'm curious to know how the transfers were done.
