oh it's hard, but I gotta keep telling myself "It could have all been trashed!" Man I was stuck with no transportation, an hour from my house taking a week to put my father back in a rest home so I could deal with my business. My first text was to Mike Kostek and within a day, he had rented a car, arranged another Samaritan, and headed hundreds of miles to New Orleans. I was able to meet him there for a few hours and Mike trudged through the murky stinky swamp water, carrying armful after armful of treasures, perched precariously on shelves and beds above the stench. He did two full days of this, rescuing a world class collection (if I do say so myself) from heat, stink, water and mold. Luckily I had most stored in protective bags and the end result is almost 99.9% is up for sale in the excellent condition they were in before the storm. Mike did this out of the passion for the Velvets that we all share, but more to bail out a friend of over 30 years. I will never be able to thank him enough for doing what I could not. And many future Velvets fans can thank Mike for keeping these items from the junk pile, and keeping them available to be enjoyed for many years to come. Considering that, it gets a lot easier.nkdlunch wrote:Oh, that has got to be REALLY hard man!

Re: Huge VU collection coming up for sale
I really feel for you Rick. I sent Mike a message through ebay thanking him for his work, but yeah - it's better for it to be dispersed and saved and make you money, than still be at risk, but we can all empathise with you. Linger on...

I bought the Mono Torso with the banana intact. Just know that it is in the hands of an obsessed 34 year old. It is my holy grail of records. I will take good care of it!velvetfan wrote:oh it's hard, but I gotta keep telling myself "It could have all been trashed!" That gives me solace. Enjoy it and think of the obsessive nature that helped me compile this collection. Thanks for the shout!
