hi Joe - I've got copies of all the tapes which were used for the "Final VU" set - have to admit I've not listened to them in 10 years though.....(and dont feel any inclination to do so now!). I'm basically a Lou Reed fan who can see that most of his best work was done with the VU.

Just going back to the start of this thread, what exactly is the 'Swan' mix of Sister Ray, aka Searchin', as on Twisted Stars? Is it a genuine alternate mix of SR done in 67, or a later remix, or what?

arjan wrote:The "swan" mix is a re-equalised version of the regular WL-WH studio take. Its name comes from the comp LP it was issued on in the early 70s, one that featured swans on its cover. People like it because the re-equalising gives the track more kick. See also Oliviers discography, comp LPs section.

The Sister Ray on the first Quine tapes cd is really something, if you havent tracked down the missing first cd from your set I could send it to you. Its also interesting hearing the mono mix of it on the record, Im not sure how many of these were pressed though.

I've always had a difficult time tracking down VU bootlegs. Its not something I usually find in used CD stores.

I think these days your best source for bootlegs would be right here on the Net. Online dealers, eBay, peer-to-peer sites and trading with other collectors.

Yeah, that is a good point Chance. Bootlegs in stores anyway can cost up to 20 dollars and there is always the chance that the sound quality may be shoddy or worse.
Sadly though, its rather difficult to find VU boots online even, I've seen entire websites dedicated to hosting bootlegs for other artists, but none yet for this one. As for Dimeadozen, thats a 50/50 shot right there whether its hosting new members or not, and now I saw a disclaimer saying they won't take new members unless there membership is below 75,000. Ah well, theres always the Quine Tapes.

Thanks guys, nothing I'm quite sure about yet, I'll check Oliviers site out and see if there are any good shows that interest me up there. Thanks again.
