Okay kiddies,
here are three tracks from the Matrix fall/winter 1969.
Here's all you need to know:
This is without question the best sonically sounding live VU in existence.
The performances are brilliant as well.
These were recorded by Peter Abrams who worked sound at The Matrix.
They were recorded onto 4 track tape and kept in storage until 4 years ago. Actually there's a bit more to their history but nevermind for now.
The original reels were mixed down to DAT.
The mix is great and if they were to be released tomorrow, I don't think I'd change a thing (thanks Pat).
A serious attempt was made to acquire these for release by Universal, sadly an agreement could not be reached.
The tracks for download were ripped with EAC and are in FLAC format.
I have neither the time nor the inclination to argue technical points. If you don't like these or believe they are anything other than what is stated here, then we nothing to discuss.

Enjoy these for now and more will come - I just ask for your patience and , it goes without saying, that these are free to our fanatical little community and cerntainly never, ever for sale.

Notes: those Matrix shows are supposedly the source for most of the tracks of the official 1969 Live album - which according to Paul Nelson was compiled "from over eight hours of performances tapes". However those dates overlap with the Whisky shows and must be wrong. The correct ones may be those listed below. Unfortunately Polygram never had access to the original tapes when they mastered the CD reissues..."

I wonder because "There She Goes Again" is not listed in any of the other Matrix dates on Olivers site or on the Matrix stuff on the Quine Tapes. The WFTM also does not match the "1969 Live" release mentioned above.

This intro is SO great. Lou seems SO relaxed... joking and laughing a little bit.

I've dig out some old notes that you might find interesting. I wrote this around 2002 just after I came across the sampler.

"1969" stands for "1969 Velvet Underground Live With Lou Reed".
"Quine" stands for "The Velvet Underground Bootleg Series Volume 1: The Quine Tapes".

The sound quality on the sampler is stunning - of course better than the "Quine's tapes" version (just compare the two Sister Ray in example...) but also superior to the "1969 Live" versions which have some slight hiss and audible cracks (they probably used some acetate copies instead of original tapes).
