Wondering what the sound is like on this. They seemed to crop up only after the "deluxe edition" set came out, so I'm guessing it's just that copy pressed to vinyl. But am curious to know for sure.

sounds like crap. shitty pressing, shitty mastering. yet another ripoff...

Thanks for the reply, you saved me some $$. Oh, how I wish they used a mint original mono LP for the deluxe set source...

Maybe they can re-issue the set sourced from a nice mono LP, use the MFSL stereo mastering and include those acetate tracks that were just found. In other words, do it right. I can dream, can't I?

i like the mono cd reissue. it's better than the cdr/cassette versions of scratchy mono lps i've had over the years. but to be honest, i haven't compared it to the what goes on box set...

the acetate is an early version of the first LP with the original takes of Venus, H & Waiting For The Man.

I no longer have the WGO set, but did compare it to the deluxe set and remember the deluxe set slightly nudging it out (not to mention that WGO doesn't have the whole album). Seems like the same source, but the WGO tracks sound heavily eq'd and don't sound right to me. The deluxe version is more true to the original sound, but is quite dull. Which for me really hurts Cale's viola, it just doesn't have that scream with so much of the high-end gone. It isn't horrible by any means and will be an upgrade to some, but it was a downgrade to me and wasn't what it could've been is all I'm saying. There's a real good CDR from a nearmint vinyl going around that I find much better (not scratchy at all) and shows what could've been done with a nice vinyl as the source.
